MANAGER OF CORPORATE COMPLIANCE
Former Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida |
|||
EEOC Investigator
|
Eric Miller currently serves as the Manager of Corporate Compliance for a major insurance corporation in Florida, where he is responsible for the tracking, monitoring and investigation of misconduct complaints against 1100+ internal personnel assets and the related detection of corporate vulnerabilities and risks. He drafts policies and procedures related to corporate compliance and complaint intake mechanisms and makes recommendations regarding case resolution and defense.
Before entering the private sector, Eric Miller had a distinguished government career, most recently serving as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida, responsible for the regulatory and criminal enforcement operations and overall management of the State of Florida’s Division of Workers Compensation, Division of State Fire Marshal and Division of Insurance Fraud. Miller entered public service in 1982 as a uniformed Police Officer for the City of Pensacola, Florida. In his eleven years with the City, Miller served in the Patrol Division as a motor cop, (still a motorman in his heart), a Major Crimes Division investigator, plainclothes drug enforcement detective and as a police trainer.
In 1993, Eric became the Chief of Internal Investigations for the Office of the Inspector General, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, where he directed and coordinated investigations into governmental corruption, official misconduct, financial crimes, criminal and administrative violations. Miller managed agency responses to Whistle-blower complaints assigned by Governor’s office and trained agency managers in laws and procedures associated with sexual harassment complaints, other Title VII (discrimination) complaints, Whistle-blower cases, and administrative investigations. He developed policies and procedures related to audits and investigations.
Continuing his climb up the ladder of state government, in 2001 Miller assumed a leadership role at the Department of Financial Services for the State of Florida. He directed all operations at the Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations for the Division of the State Fire Marshal, and served as the Director of the Division of Insurance Fraud, the 177-member agency responsible for the investigation of insurance fraud, title fraud, insurance related crimes, and other financial crimes in the State of Florida. Miller codified administrative laws and rules within the Florida Administrative Code addressing anti-fraud reporting rules and rewards. He drafted anti-fraud laws which are still used as a model in fraud enforcement throughout the nation. Miller assisted with the achievement of the unit’s highest white-collar crime arrest rate in its 30-year history. He also conducted legislative bill analyses, and presented updates and briefings before Cabinet officials, House and Senate committee members and other high ranking legislators in matters related to insurance fraud.
